08 President's Message for 2007-05-08

The following comments from a CtAUG member are presented here to record history at this particular point in time.

FYI. I just spent a week and a half with indians trying to get my Vista pos repaired. Worked when I went to sleep, when I woke up - no communication. Both the wired and WiFi connections showed as "no problem" according to the diagnostics. Run the diags a second time and "can't find network connections" was the result. They couldn't fix the damned thing so I ended up scrapping the whole OS and reinstalling it losing all the work and configuration I had achieved. The docs were all off onto a CD long before this, but I have a month of work ahead of me to get all the MS Office and SQL crap up, plus all the other apps. I'm really pissed. Here's why. After insisting on XP and being told "NO WAY" by dell in Feb., Dell changed their policy on April 4 per their "blog" stating that certain machines were now available with an alternative OS. That would be XP. The reason? Federal government placed an order for 500,000 units and were told "no XP." The said "fine. No Dell." So Dell said "no problem with XP!" Bastards.

For whatever good it will do I'll be sending a scathing but polite letter to Dell corporate expressing my anger. If I decide to load XP myself, they will no longer support my system for software issues. Even if I buy it from Dell.

Research into my problem shows that loss of communication is a common thing after the forced automatic MS upgrades. One gentleman found that he could recover after systematically removing three levels of "upgrades." After that, his services came back up. Vista is a piece of crap designed solely to allow MS and it's "partners" to monitor and control the people that use it. Aside from the huge amount of eye candy and cute little multimedia junk items there is no reason to use Vista unless you have a tendency towards masochism.

Sigh.

See what happens when you make me wait for a reply?? Sorry for the vent. You just happened to hit me right. I'll try to make the next meeting. BTW, I have a question about the Office 2003 package we got from the group. I installed it on the laptop so I could use the newer Access. When I went to use it on the desktop I use (most of the time) it told me the licences were exhausted. Normally you can install a package on two machines. Is this package different? Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. In any event I'll have to contact MS to get that license working on the "new" laptop installation.

Here are a couple of YouTube clips you might like. Diana was really hot on that clip and I love Tony Bennett, but the video quality is crappy. I hate letterman. What a dipshit. The last clip is a vocal with Billy Joel and Bennett. Pretty good.

YouTube is great! You can find anything there. If you haven't been, you should. The RIAA is starting their attack and removing all the music clips as we speak.

Later!
